How does the resin driveway installation process work?
The Moli installation team has vast experience and your new resin driveway is only days away. We have a dedicated page about the installation process but in brief, this involves the following steps.
- The existing driveway is dug out to a depth between 200 and 300mm
- A sub base of 100-200mm frost-resistant and porous, accredited MOT Type 3 aggregate is installed and compacted down.
- Once the sub base is in place 70-80mm of a porous “no fines” concrete or an open grade 10-14mm aggregate-sized tarmac is installed.
- When the base is cured a solid polyurethane-based UV stable resin is mixed with a clean, washed and dried aggregate of choice. This is hand-laid over the surface using special trowels or hover floats.
- Finally, crushed glass is cast over the curing surface to ensure an anti-slip finish.
Permeable SUDS Compliant Surface
The result of the Moli installation is a surface aligned with Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) and therefore doesn’t require planning permission. Water will not pool on the surface and is free to drain through.

A resin bonded driveway will typically cost £100-110 per square metre while resin bound drives will average £130 – £165 per square metre.

How long do resin driveways last?
Resin bound driveways are a durable and long-lasting option for a driveway surface. They are made from a combination of resin bound system and aggregate materials, which are mixed and then poured onto a prepared surface.
The resulting surface is smooth, durable, and hard-wearing. With proper installation and maintenance, a resin driveway can typically last around 15-20 years.
Are resin driveways slippery?
One concern that some people have about resin bound driveways is whether they are slippery. The short answer is that, like most surfaces, a resin driveway can become slippery when wet. However, Moli resin bound driveways are made with an anti-skid additive that increases the surface's slip resistance.
The anti-slip layer is created by adding 0.5mm of crushed glass cast over the trowelled resin. This makes the driveway non-slippery so it can be used safely.
Overtime this anti slip material wears down with the top surface layer of resin. Once this happens you get the grip provided from the aggregates.
Can I mix resin driveway colours?
Yes. Mixing resin bound surface colours is a great way to create a unique and bespoke resin driveway. Moli offers 28 colours to choose from, giving homeowners a wide range of options to create a personalised look for their driveway.
You can mix and match different colours to create resin contrasting borders or use a single colour for a classic and timeless look.
How much do resin driveways cost?
The cost of resin driveways is difficult to quantify without an analysis of your existing surface, its size and an understanding of any extras that might be required. Every driveway has a unique shape, depth and edgings.
As a guide, the cost per square meter can range from £100 to £200 inc. VAT depending on factors such as whether a full transformation is required, a new base installation or installation over the existing base, our makeover option.
How long do resin driveways take to cure?
A resin bound surface can take up to 24 hours before it's suitable for vehicles to drive on. However, we would always recommend 48 hours before parking on your driveway due to temperature fluctuations in the UK.
In warmer weather, resin bound will cure quicker so ensure you speak to your surveyor or Moli installer on the day the job is laid to get an accurate timeline for curing.
What depth of resin gravel is normally laid?
Resin Bound driveways are laid at 18-20mm depth as the surface is designed for vehicular traffic. However, it can vary depending on the type of application and also the size of aggregates chosen. Footpaths and patios use less material and are typically laid at 15mm.
